‘Heroes of the Sea’

Richard Oughton

Tramstop Takeover celebrating RNLI volunteers.

16 portraits in 8 tramstops along The Golden Mile from August 12 till end September.

Anna Paprika talks to Richard Oughton

I’ve been a photographer for over 10 years mainly documenting the Northern Soul subculture scene and I have recently moved into portraiture as well as documentary. Having witnessed these volunteers from the RNLI whilst I was teaching I really wanted to do something to say thank you for everything that they do, five years later ‘Heroes of the Sea’ crowdfunding project which will hopefully see the images along the Blackpool tram stop facing out to sea from the 9th of August. We are also running a HIVEArts open call exhibition at HIVE Blackpool ‘Seaside Stories’

You can contact HIVEArts via Facebook and the exhibition will start on August 19th. The money raised will go towards the images being printed and then to the RNLI as a way of saying thank you.  These amazing volunteers sacrifice not only their time but their lives to save other people that they don’t even know. They are a charity that does not get funded by the government and therefore living by the sea I felt it imperative to do something my way of saying thank you.
